I am a firm believer in having a diet "cheat day". A cheat day is a day where you basically don't give a hoot about what you eat. It's your day off. You can eat whatever you want. Cheat days are great for the morale and they actually will help to boost your metabolism. Manipulating your calorie content daily will help rev up your fat burning power. Typically, you don't over eat too much on your cheat day because you know you can have what you want. Also, you are more likely to stay on your diet plan during the week because you know you can fulfill all of your cravings on your scheduled off day. However, some cheat days you just kinda go overboard.
Today is that kinda day for me. The day started out well with my usual 1/2 protein bar and coffee for breakfast. But as the day progressed, all my rules went out the window. Lunch consisted of buttery movie theater popcorn (which my husband affectionately refers to as MTP). Then dinner consisted of straight buttercream frosting, salmon sushi, and a steamfresh pasta meal, and a smidge of hagen daaz. Ooopsies... I don't think I quite hit my daily alotment of vitamins and nutrients (I guess buttercream frosting would be part of the fats and oil group?!)....
So what is a girl to do after she has busted the diet bank?
First off, NEVER feel Guilty!!! Never ever ever. You pigged out, it was great, smile and get over it!! Second, make a food plan for the next day. My go to plan is a protein shake for breakfast, protein bar for lunch and salad with salmon for dinner. Coffee and raw almonds for snacks.
And, LOTS of water!! Next, before you go to bed, take some dandelion, a fiber supplement and some milk thistle. This will help you detox for the next day. Also, make sure you get some exercise in the next morning. Working out will boost your metabolism, give you more energy and motivate you to get back on track.
No need to stress. Getting back on track after a diet slip up is easy and pain free. So enjoy your cheat without regrets!
